Catherine manages the communication and marketing deliverables for Getting Smart, bringing creativity and enthusiasm to the strategic needs of our partners.
She has more than a decade of experience helping organizations identify their key messages and connecting them with their target audiences through a variety of channels.
She began her career at Iowa’s only children’s hospital, working with media to position the organization as a leader in pediatric healthcare. She moved on to an advertising agency to supervise communication efforts for local, regional, and national accounts in a variety of industries including education, non-profit, government, retail, and financial services.
After opening her own communication consulting business, she oversaw the creation of Communities In Schools of Iowa, an affiliate of a national non-profit organization working to assist at-risk youth and dropouts with completing school.
A former high school dropout turned master’s degree recipient, she is passionate about improving K-12 education opportunities through technology and finding the best learning environment for every student. She and her husband live in the Seattle area with their three miniature dachshunds.
